Happy Full Moon!

Greetings!

Today, we have the full moon, a supermoon, with the moon in the fixed earth sign Taurus and the sun in the fixed water sign Scorpio. Fixed energy is exactly what it sounds like. It is rigid, focused, determined, disciplined, and routine. While these are generally good traits, they can be bad if taken to excess. We see a lot of rigidness in the world today, as a matter of fact, with the desire to find middle-of-the-road solutions absent for the most part. Extremes currently rule our paradigm, and what a tragedy that is. But, enough of waxing poetically, let’s discuss the prevalent energies.

Besides the tension present between Taurus and Scorpio energies, a few other things are happening that could make this a weird weekend. The sun and the moon are currently at odds with each other, with the moon focused on sensual delights and the sun focused on emotional gratification. In the background is Saturn in Pisces, stationing direct. This means that technically, it is neither direct nor retrograde. For the last several months, Saturn has been retrograde, which means it has been a time of looking within to see what needs to be changed spiritually and emotionally. Now that Saturn is moving direct, it will be time to move forward with what has been learned. However, until that happens tomorrow or Sunday, depending on where you live, there is the time between, between retrograde and direct, when anything can happen. This can be anything from the mundane, such as water pipes breaking, to the spiritual, such as spiritual debts being paid and cosmic scales balanced. No matter what happens, it will shake up the fixed natures of the fixed astrological signs-Scorpio, Taurus, Aquarius, and Leo. And, since that is thirty percent of the zodiac, the chances are that we know someone who will be affected, and we might be affected too, depending on the birth chart.

Another planet is at work in the background right now: Uranus retrograde in Taurus. Uranus retrograde is conjunct with the moon in Taurus, which tells us that anything can happen in the physical world this weekend. Uranus is the planet of unexpected events, chaos, rebellion, electricity, mass communication, and the Internet, and when it is conjunct the moon, this means the unexpected will happen, either internally, externally, or both, and what happens will disrupt the fixed nature of things. Uranus has been retrograde for a while now, telling us now is a good time to take a look within and change what needs to be changed, effectively rebelling against the self, but for all the right reasons. But, Taurus is a sign of food and physical comforts, so when you put this in context of Uranus, it tells us the unexpected might come up regarding tangible pleasures. The example I usually use is food poisoning, but it could really be anything that applies to your situation.

When we step back and look at the big picture, we see that the main theme of this full moon is that of the unexpected coming up, throwing us off our routines and focused views. Some people might see this as bad, but I see this as an opportune time to remember that stagnation equals death, and the only constant is change. The key right now is that it is time to figure out how to implement what you have discovered over the last several months, particularly as it has to do with spirituality, emotions, and how that manifests in daily life and behavior.

If any of this is not resonating with you, don’t worry. Mercury is retrograding in the mutable fire sign Sagittarius in about eight days and will come along and expose information that is hidden that needs to be addressed, regardless of your opinion. This is the last Mercury retrograde period of the year and just about runs through the whole sign of Sagittarius, so for those of you that have strong mutable energy in your chart (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, Pisces), this will be intense. This Mercury retrograde period comes right after Pluto’s entrance into the fixed air sign Aquarius and the sun’s entrance into Sagittarius, making all of that week (the 19th through the 25th) an eventful one. But after that, things quiet down dramatically for the end of the calendar year.

The takeaway from this discussion and full moon is spiritual and emotional adaptation, but it also raises a question: How will you put into practice what you have learned over the last few months? If you don’t, then do you really want what you think you want?

Namaste,
