Today we have the full moon in Aries, during which the Sun is in the cardinal fire sign of Aries, and the moon is in the cardinal air sign of Libra, the opposite sign of Aries. This is the first full moon of the new zodiacal year, and I am taking this opportunity to begin a new project on here. Before I start that, though, I would like to lightly touch on what this full moon means, when looked at through the two signs listed above. Aries is associated with the self. It is the first sign of the zodiac, and it reflects a very aggressive yet singular point focus. Libra is the sign associated with personal relationships. Sometimes these are intimate, and sometimes they are not, but in either event, Libra is the study of relationships, specifically focusing on the relationship between the self and the other. Hence, during this full moon, it is wise to see how all of this is displayed in your life, and to see what adjustments are to be made, and how they are to be made.
Did you know that the Christian holy day of Easter is astrologically timed? It is, fact, constructed astrologically. Easter occurs every year on the Sunday that immediately follows the first full moon after the spring equinox. Hence the early church founders (or whoever created that system) were familiar enough with astrology to use it in constructing their faith’s practices. In esoteric astrology, this full moon is about the resurrection and new beginnings. Seasonally, it is the resurrection from winter into spring, and astrologically, this is a prime time to focus on what you want to bring in and create for the upcoming year.
Now that we’ve got the basics out of the way, I would like to share the theme for this blog for the upcoming year. This year I’m going to focus on the seasonal names for the full moons throughout the year. Each full moon that occurs during an astrological year has a seasonal name attached to it. A lot of the correspondences are in tandem with the region that they are found in. So for example, in the southern part of the USA, there may be a regional name for the full moon that doesn’t exist outside the south, and vice versa, all over the globe, really. Because of this, it would be hard to make a fully comprehensive list of all the seasonal names for every moon, although it could be done. For the upcoming year, I’ll be discussing the seasonal names that I know of for that particular moon, and sharing thoughts about it with you. This is by no means meant to be 100% inclusive, but rather to stimulate thought in this direction. This month’s seasonal names are the “Worm Moon” or the “Sap Moon.”
It is called this because around this time is when trees begin to sap in a lot of environments across the globe. In other words, the trees prepare for the oncoming year, and get ready to come to life. This also means that sap can start to be collected as well. Worm moon, well, because we start to see worms, as they begin the new year as well! Do you know of any regional names to share? If so, I’m all ears.
